The installation procedures for a 5th wheel hitch will be different on a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 when compared to a 2018 Ram 2500. The main difference between them is that the 2018 Ram 2500 has the factory prep package option which means you can use a hitch such as the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package part # C16530-16021 which just drops into place. If this is the process you are referring to then that is not possible on your 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 because it could not have came with the factory prep package like the 2018 Ram 2500.

Instead, for your 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 I recommend using a set of standard above bed base rails like the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16420-204 with the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R16 Slider part # C16521. The install kit is a custom fit so no drilling into the frame is required and the hitch has a very nice dual interlocking jaw system which is going to hold the kingpin very tightly and reducing any potential chucking issues. Please note that because you have a short bed tuck you will need to use a slider hitch in order to create turning clearance between the truck and trailer.
