Can Larger Wheels be Added if They Have the Same Bolt Pattern

Question:

Im going to be building a tear camper on a small 2000 lbs trailer that has 12 inch - 5 on 4-1/2 wheels and tires. Id like to upgrade them to something like 14 inch - 5 on 4-1/2 . Is this possible just by adding the wheels directly to the 2000 lbs axle or do I have to modify anything to do this. Ive looked on line for the past 2 days and havent been able to find a straight answer. Thanks so much for your help.

The answer to your question is yes, you can use 14" wheels to replace 12" wheels if they have the same bolt pattern, and since you mentioned both wheels have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern you are fine to replace them, though you will need to replace the tires at the same time.

For example if your camper currently had the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 # AM30740, you could replace it with the Westlake ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 14" Silver Mod Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # 274-000053

The only thing to note is that the tires will be larger in diameter and width so you need to make sure you have clearance for your fenders and to the trailer frame. Depending on the tire you choose it will be about three inches wider and about five inches more in diameter.

I have added a link to our entire selection of 14 inch tire and wheels with a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern for you to take a look at.
