Can I Keep My Toolbox/Fuel Tank with a 5th Wheel Hitch on my 2012 Ram 2500

Question:

I have a Reese 5 th wheel hitch that I’m going to put in my truck. My question is will I still be able to do this with the 50 gal toolbox/fuel tank I have already in it?

For starters, the correct kit that you will need to install a Reese 5th wheel hitch such as the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # RP30083 for short bed (6-1/2') trucks or part # RP30928 for long bed (8') trucks is the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails part # RP50140-58.

In order to determine if the toolbox/fuel tank you have can be used with the above kit installed you will need to measure from the back edge of the bed floor forward. The base rail closest to the cab will sit 54" away from the back edge of the bed floor if you have a short bed (6-1/2') or 56" if you have a long bed (8'). Therefore, so long as you have space between the forward rail and the front of your bed using the above measurements then you can use the toolbox/fuel tank. There would be no way for me to give you an answer without the truck present.

If the toolbox/fuel tank you have now is too wide to fit in the above location then we do offer the DeeZee Truck Bed Auxiliary Tank part # DZ91752X which holds 38 gallons and is only 9" wide so it should work on either the short or long bed models of the above.
