Voyager Brake Controller LED Light Goes from Green to Red to Off with Brake Pedal Applied
Question:
Brake controller was working correctly and now when you hook up a trailer or use a volt meter to test it and hit the brake pedal the light is Green but goes straight to Red and completely off. This happens even with it adjusted all the way down or up. Please help. Thanks

What you are describing sounds like an overload situation which can be caused by several factors or a combination of things. First, the easiest to check would be the trailer side and vehicle side connectors for any dirt and corrosion and clean them out. Corrosion can also build up behind the connectors where you cannot see it as easily.
You will also want to make sure that the blue wire from the controller to the connector is intact with no nicks in the wire. If it had some exposed wire touching a metal surface, that could cause some issues.
Another possibility is a bad ground connection. Make sure that the brake controller ground is intact. The ideal place to ground a brake controller is the negative battery terminal. Also check the ground for the trailer connector on the vehicle side. It should be connected to a clean metal surface.
You can also test the red wire behind the brake controller using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. It should show uninterrupted power when the brake pedal is pressed. If it does not or there is fluctuation, then there is a problem with the connection to the brake switch that you will need to investigate.
If you can not find any other issue then there is probably a problem with the internal circuitry of the brake controller and it will need to be replaced.
