Best Trailer Hitch for a 2012 Mini Cooper Clubman S
Question:
Will the receiver be way back under the bumper, so I have to lay on the ground way under my car to secure the bolt, and will I have to cut an opening in the lower part of my bumper to allow for the bike rack to slide into the receiver? Let me know please

For starters, if you have a 2012 Mini Cooper Clubman S then the correct trailer hitch for you is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11387, not the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11272. In regards to inserting the hitch pin, this will indeed need to be done from under the vehicle because that is just the way the hitch is designed. It really depends on how limber you are if you can do this from the kneeling or lying down position.
If you take a look at the attached photo, you can see that there is indeed trimming/cutting involved in the install process. Unfortunately, if you want to install a trailer hitch on your Clubman then there will be no other option. If the receiver tube opening was located under the bumper it would scrape on pretty much any uneven surface due to the vehicle's low ground clearance.
I have attached an install video for you well.
