Choosing Between Roadmaster Spare Tire Carriers RM-195225 and RM-195125

Question:

I have a 2018 Pleasure-Way Lexor TS RV on a 2017 Dodge RAM ProMaster chassis. Will the spare tire carrier pivot to the ground enough to permit me to fully open the rear doors? Will any part of the hitch be in the way of opening the doors? In photos and videos it looks like part of the carrier will still stick up too high to permit the doors to open. I’ve been following blogs and Pleasure-Way Facebook groups that indicate that the doors won’t be able to open with this spare tire carrier.

The Roadmaster Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier # RM-195225 pivots down 90-degrees as shown in the photo, but specific rear door clearance on your RV would depend on several factors so we cannot guarantee your rear doors would still be able to open. The things that matter are the tire size on the RV and of course the spare, the hitch height and the RV's own stance above ground, which is a function of the total load in it.

My contact at Roadmaster hears customer comments all the time on this carrier and the similar # RM-195125. She said sometimes doors can clear but not always, and for the reason stated above.

She also pointed out another consideration for choosing the # RM-195225 or the # RM-195125. If your RV has the standard Ram wheels (with little or no offset) you'll need the # RM-195125. If the wheels have substantial offset (meaning the wheel center is NOT near the tread center) then instead use # RM-195225.
