Testing Fuses with Circuit Tester to Determine If Fuse is Bad

Question:

The correct position of the running light pin is as you say 11 oclock. I have changed f29 ,f30,and f53. Again is there no way to test fuses? The body control module can I test it? These days its hard to pay the expensive diagnostic tests to find out it could be a faulty fuse. Im not a wiring genius by any means just a guy looking for help . Thanks

When using a circuit tester like the Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993 you can check a fuse while it is still in place to test if it is faulty. There are two holes in the top of the blade style fuses that will allow you to use the probe on the circuit tester to test each side of the fuse. If you have power on both sides of the fuse, then fuse is good. This is more reliable and much easier than pulling a fuse for visual inspection.

If you have power at the fuse, then I recommend starting at your 7-way and tracing that wire probing through the insulation ever couple of feet to find a power short. When found, replace the portion of wire with # 16-1-1 sold by the foot and use butt connector # DW05744-5
