It sounds like you are trying to make the stop light switch circuit connection for a brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 on your 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. If that is the case then you cannot splice into the switch/sensor behind the brake pedal because it does not carry enough voltage. Instead, you will need to splice into an electrical connector located under the passenger side sill garnish molding. The wire you are looking for is white with a blue stripe. Once you find this you can then splice the red wire on the brake controller into this with a quick splice connector part # SWC502905-1.
I have attached a photo of the connector that you will splice into for the stop light switch circuit. Please note that the process to install a brake controller on the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is unlike most others due to the difficulty of acquiring each circuit therefore professional installation is strongly advised. If you will be doing the install yourself then I recommend you look over the 18-NA-123 Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) beforehand.
The other option you have if the above is not something that you are interested in completing is to use the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 which does not require a hard line connection to the vehicle's stop light switch circuit.
