Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch and Rail Kit to Tow 2017 Cougar Lite

will this work on a 2017 Ram limited 1500 with a 5-1/2 foot bed buying a 2017 cougar lite 5th wheel

As long as the trailer you plan to tow has a Sidewinder or Reese Revolution pin box installed on it the Reese fifth wheel rail kit part # RP50142-58 and the Reese hitch part # RP30047 will fit and work well. Since your truck bed is 5-1/2 feet in length the best way to get the needed turning clearance is one of the pivoting pin boxes I mentioned. Since you have a 5th Airborne it's possible it's a Sidewinder/5th Airborne but you'd need to verify this. Either way though since you have the 5th Airborne there will be a Sidewinder replacement available for it.

Sidewinders are pin box specific so you will first need to know what pin box you have now in order to pick out the correct one.

There should be a sticker or a stamping on the OEM pin box of the trailer that will list the pin box number that is on the trailer. Most likely you'll see Lippert 1621 or 1716 as these are very common. We've seen a few Cougar Lites and they've had 1621 boxes so the Sidewinder needed would MOST LIKELY be the part # RP34FR.

Once you figure out which pin box you have you can check the FAQ I attached that has a chart that shows the correct Sidewinder to get based on which pin box you have.
