Truck Recommendation for Double Towing 5th Wheel and Boat Trailer

Question:

Truck, 5th wheel and boat combo We just bought a 27.8 Ft 5th wheel 30 actual. 10,000 gw We have a 16 ft alumicraft fishing boat. What truck would work. We are leaning towards a F250. If we get a 2nd less new pickup we would purchase a diesel because we have a 2015 F150 gas. But, if we would choose a new vehicle and have only 1, should we get a diesel or would a flex fuel vehicle work?

For a Ford truck to tow a 10,000 lb 5th wheel trailer and a 16 foot aluminum boat, an F-250 or F-350 is a good option. There are many differences in actual towing capacity based on not only the engine but the transmission axle ratio, so you will want to make sure you have more than enough capacity for your needs. You should be able to find a gas option for your desires without any issue, but if you will be towing this combination a lot diesel is always going to be better for towing regularly. I know a 2018 F-250 diesel would meet your needs for towing, but only certain 6.2L V8 options would work and you definitely want the 4.30 axle ratio if you go that route. Ford has a trailer towing guide to give you specifics.

I've attached some articles to assist with your choice of vehicle for the last few years that we've compiled.

For a 5th wheel hitch, I recommend getting the factory prep pucks and then using the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w Slider for Ford Towing Prep Package - Dual Jaw - 20K # BWRVK3370 for a short bed or the # BWRVK3300 for a long bed. This hitch is a great fit and will give you better king pin contact than any other option. It is extremely durable and always a customer favorite.
