You are correct in that the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 will require a 7-way trailer connector to be installed on the tow vehicle in order to operate. In order to install a 7-way trailer connector on your 2012 Jeep Liberty you will first need a 4-way trailer connector if you do not already have one. For this, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118554. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness is very easy to install and it does not require any splicing which you can see in the attached video.
Once you have the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness you can then install the 7-way trailer connector for which I recommend using the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation part # ETBC7L. This harness will plug into the 4-way you just installed and then require two additional connections, a ground and a power wire which will need to be ran to the vehicle's battery.
The above two harnesses will then give you everything that you need to use the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller on your 2012 Jeep Liberty.
