How To Prevent Rust Spots From Forming On A Skid Plate

I have a few rusts spot on top of my skid plate, do you recommend a maintenance practice I can apply to keep it rust free and levers lubed? Thanks,

The maintenance practices that you will need to follow for your 5th wheel hitch will be outlined in the owner's manual. There is not a standard practice for all 5th wheel trailer hitches. If you can tell me exactly what 5th wheel hitch you are using then I would be happy to explain these to you. For example, the Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # C16130 calls for you to torque the four pilot bolts to 100 foot lbs and for you to lubricate all of the grease points before each use.

If the skid plate you are referring to is on the head of the 5th wheel hitch then you can use a lube plate like the Curt 10" Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch Lube Plate part # 16721 to prevent any damage to the surface which would then lead to rust spots. I prefer a lube plate over just applying grease as it is less messy and you don't have to worry about the coating wearing away and leaving rust spots.
