Checking or Installing 12V Power to 7-Way Trailer Connector on 2010 Chevy Silverado

Question:

I am about to install my brake controller to my new tow vehicle. I cannot find the battery charge wire that is supposed to be located between the fuse box and driver front fender. How can I tell if it is already hooked up to the 7 pole connector at the rear bumper? Is the anywhere else it might be connected to other then the two lugs front of the fuse box? I ha located the other wire and it is not hooked up yet. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If the 12V battery charge line is already connected to your 7-way you will be able to simply test it with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 at the 7-way. The 12V power will be at the 1 o'clock pin location on your 7-way connector. I've attached a photo to assist as well as some videos of how to use the tester.

With the two studs in front of the fuse box, if you have two wires connected, it is likely already present at your 7-way but testing with the circuit tester will confirm either way. I've attached an article on the connection to further assist.

If you want to run a separate line, you can use # 10-1-1 sold by the foot to run from that post to the 1 o'clock position on your 7-way. If you prefer, you can run the wire directly from the positive battery terminal through a circuit breaker like # 9510, and then to the pin on your 7-way.
