What Gets Trimmed/Modified to Install Draw-Tite # 76227 on 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon

Question:

2017 Subaru Outback Touring 2.5 - I am having a hard time re-installing the rear valance with the Draw-Tite 76227. Is it necessary or advantageous to trim or shave down the foam bumper pad before the valance is installed? I seem to be off by about 1/4inch - the thickness of the hitch plate.

You shouldn't have to trim or modify the foam bumper support of your 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon to install the Draw Tite hitch part # 76227. The only thing you'd need to trim is the rear fascia panel to allow it to fit back over the hitch. I attached a picture that covers the reinstallation of the foam panel as well as the cut out dimensions. The foam panel is part of the support system for the rear bumper so we cannot recommend modifying it.
