Comparing the Install of Draw Tite and Curt Trailer Hitch for 2018 Subaru Crosstrek
Question:
I am reviewing the different options for my 2018 Crosstrek. It appears I need to enlarge the holes for the Curt C13382 but I dont need to lower exhaust. With the Draw-Tite 76209, I dont need to enlarge holes but need to lower exhaust. Wouldnt an easier solution to install the Curt be to use hardware similar to the Draw-Tite? Seems to me I could install the Curt without enlarging the holes and without lowering the muffler. Why the need to enlarge the holes when the other manufacturers have shown smaller hardware works just as well?

We have to recommend you install both hitches exactly like what the install instructions show. You have enlarge holes to install the Curt # C13382 or you have to lower the exhaust to install the Draw Tite part # 76209. So if it were me I'd go with the Draw Tite hitch install. Lowering the exhaust is actually easier than it sounds as basically you just pry a coupler rubber hangers off of a bracket. Enlarging holes permanently modifies the vehicle so that's not my favorite route. Also the Draw Tite has higher towing capacities as well at 4,500 lbs total trailer weight an 675 lb tongue weight.
