Best Brake Controller for 2018 Subaru Outback for Factory Dash Appearance and Fit with Limited Space
Question:
I have a 2018 Subaru Outback with all the safety features and display making it difficult to locate a place to permanently attach a brake controller. I am looking at the Curt Echo controller since it does not have to be mounted inside. Can the 7 Way Kit ETBC7 be used with the Curt Echo #C51180 Brake Controller? I tow a small camper that has a battery and would like to charge it while towing. Is the Curt Echo controller the best alternative for the Outback or should I consider another controller such as the Prodigy?

You are correct that the Curt Echo brake controller # C51180 is a great option to give you the function you are seeking without adding anything to the dash area of your 2018 Subaru Outback. This can be used with the # ETBC7L to convert a 4-way to a 7-way and give you the battery charging option for your trailer as well as the power function for the controller. The # ETBC7L kit is very similar to the # ETBC7 kit you referenced but it doesn't have the brake controller output wire or the circuit breaker for the controller. This is a really nice option for you that utilizes a mobile device for the manual override feature and settings.
Another great option you may want to consider is using the # ETBC7 kit and then using the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # 331-EBRH-ACCV2. This does require a little more in the hardwiring process, but it gives you a brake controller with more adjustability of function between proportional and user control modes and still doesn't impact the look and feel of your factory dash. I've attached a couple of videos to assist.
Either of these options will work well for you and be a better option than the Prodigy for the desired fit.
