How To Carry Bikes On a 2002 Volkswagen Passat Wagon W8 4Motion

Question:

Hi yall! Im trying to find a hitch for the above car 2002 VW Passat Wagon W8 4Motion, and I *think* this might be the one, but I wanted to confirm. I see lots of hitches for Wagon except 4Motioninch and Wagon W8 4.0L,inch but Ive read on other etrailer forums that there may not be an exact fit for my vehicle possibly from years back, and I wanted to triple check before I go ordering it! Thanks!

I do have options for you depending on what you need a trailer hitch for but unfortunately there is not one available for the 2002 Volkswagen Passat Wagon W8 4Motion. I called both trailer hitch manufacturers we carry (Curt/Draw-Tite) and neither of them make a hitch for your vehicle. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 11164 that you referenced will only fit 2003-2004 model years.

If the reason that you wanted a trailer hitch was to tow a trailer then you would need a different vehicle but if the reason you wanted a trailer hitch was to use a bike rack then I recommend using the Thule Passage Bike Carrier part # TH910XT for two bikes or part # TH911XT for three bikes. This bike rack will actually attach to the rear hatch on your vehicle and will allow for more bikes to be carried than with a class I hitch like the above. It has foam bumpers that will protect your vehicle's finish and anti-sway cradles to make sure the bikes don't come into contact with one another. The Thule Passage also has a lifetime warranty.

Please keep in mind that if any of your bikes have an alternative frame then you will also want to use the SportRack Bike Frame Adapter Bar part # SR0500 to make sure they don't come into contact with the pavement. We also offer the Thule Passive Security Strap part # TH533 to protect your bike rack from theft. I have attached review videos on these products for you.
