One Trailer Brake Assembly Locks Up On Trailer

Question:

we have a 16foot trailer. Why would the last brake in the series be the only brake that is locking up? When you un-plug it, you hear it release

If only one braking assembly on your trailer is locking up with the trailer connected then this could point to signs of a wire short.

The first thing I would do is check the ground for the assembly that is locking up. The ground should ideally be removed, the surface should be sanded down, and then reattached with new hardware. Once the ground is checked you will then need to turn your attention to the power wire. I recommend you trace the power wire from the splice point to the problem braking assembly while checking for breaks. The most common issue is where the wire leads into the braking assembly as when the magnet moves back and forth it could then rub the jacket off the wire and cause shorting inside the assembly. This wire can be replaced with part # 10-1-1.
