What is the Best Type of Sway Control for Weight Distribution Utilizing Spring Hangers
Question:
Hi, there is an enormous amount of info/opinion about Sway Control built into a WD hitch, but one question I have has had a yes and no answer. Some WD hitches have the spring bar for WD that applies lots of pressure on a hanger. So there is some amount of friction when the bar moves across the metal or possible a wear pad. My question, does that friction the bar on hanger provide sway control? Or is it all just the tension in WD hitch head? I thought the friction does provide, but I was told by someone that I would think is an expert that it is no. Looking forward to your answer.

This is a really good question, the answer depends on the system. Some systems use spring bars that can move on the hangers like you mentioned and they'll list that as another "point" of friction sway control. Other brands will use a similar hanger and don't go out of their way to list it as adding to the friction sway control. The head of these system will provide most of the friction sway control if designed for that like with the Equal-i-Zer brand though, but the hangers will help for sure.
The dual cams of the Strait Line kit part # RP66074 that you referenced are the next evolution of this line of thinking. They actually work to force the trailer back into a strait line around corners so in a sway scenario it doesn't just try to minimize it like friction sway, it works to proactively correct it. See attached picture. This is the way to go in my opinion! I attached an install video for this kit for you to check out too.
