Tips for Getting a Large Trailer Wire to Fit into a Small 7-Way

Question:

Im trying to replace the trailer plug in my 1989 trailer and the wires are too big to fit in the seven prong, how do I make them fit? Do I need something attached to the end of the wire? Had to cut original wires from original plug which was sealed, so Im not sure.

If you are having a hard time getting the connector wires from your trailer into the replacement 7-way that you have there are a couple things you can try.

The first thing I would try would be to twist the end of the exposed wire until it will not twist anymore. This will make the wire as skinny as possible and give it the best chance at fitting in the slots.

Or you could use ring terminals like our part # DW05705-1 to attach to the wire, and then attach the ring terminal to the 7-way. Check out the video I attached that shows how this is done.

I attached an FAQ on trailer wiring that you might find informative also.
