Recommended Shackle Bolt for 2,000 lb Utility Trailer Leaf Spring Suspension System

Question:

I plan to replace the spring bolts on a small 2000 GVWR utility trailer. The bolts are 3inch x 9/16inch with lock nut. 1 3/4inch slipper springs with the same type and size bolt through the eye end and below the slipper end. It appears to be a pretty simple spring set-up. I plan to use your TruRyde bolt and nut TRFA73Z916DLNZ mainly because of the low price and the zinc plating. Please confirm this is a grade 5 bolt. If so, these should work OK, correct? Also, is there any real advantage to instead the Redline 166081 or the Dexter 007-003-01? Both are 3inch x 9/16inch but more expensive than the TruRyde. I attempted to attach two photos of each end of the springs, but I could not confirm that both photos were added. Thanks for your help.

Helpful Expert Reply:

The Zinc Shackle Bolt with Locknut for Double-Eye Springs - 3" Long # TRFA73Z916DLNZ is a grade 5 bolt. Your setup as described is a standard setup for leaf spring hangers and double eye leaf springs. The # 166081 is made by the same manufacturer and is used more commonly than zinc plated for most factory applications. The cost difference comes down to supply and demand. The Dexter bolt # 007-003-01 is simply a different manufacturer that has a big name in the trailer axle market. The zinc plated bolt is a better option for a standard bolt, where a wet bolt like # 126B2 is a better option than a standard bolt.
