For a tandem axle trailer that weighs 17,700 lbs you'd need an individual tire capacity of 4,425 lbs. The closest tire we have to that in your size of 235/85R16 is going to be the Provider ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire # TTWPRG235R16 which has a capacity of 4,400 lbs which is close but you'd be 100 lbs under capacity with these. Most tires in this size have a much lower capacity so I would not be shocked if the reason your current tires are junk is that you are overloading them.

The only tire size we have that's going to have the capacity you need will bump you up to the 17.5 inch diameter wheel size with the Provider 215/75R17.5 Radial Tire # TA95ZR which has a capacity of 4,805 lbs at 123 psi and has a 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern.
