Recommended Curt Hitch Extension and Reducer for 2-1/2 Trailer Hitch Receiver

Question:

I am trying to understand the tong weight for a 24inch extension. My truck is rated for 1500 lb tong weight. If I use a 24inch extension what will the tong weight be reduced to?

The Curt Hitch Extension and Reducer for 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches - 24" to 34" Long # C45048 when used as a 24 inch extension is rated for 600 lbs tongue weight or up to 800 lbs when using a weight distribution system. I reached out to the manufacturer and they account for the lower tongue weight capacities of the hitch when using an extender in their listed ratings.

Most extensions don't give you the tongue weight rating but with the 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver they can comfortably give those capacities because they know the hitch can handle the weight based on their testing of the product. You should simply go by the 600 lb tongue weight max without weight distribution or the 800 lb tongue weight max if using a weight distribution system.
