No Turn Signals on a Trailer with New Lights being Towed with a 1997 Toyota Corolla

Question:

I have put lights on my trailer. The lights have 4 wires, the adapter has 4 wires.I have brake lights on the trailer but no turn signal but the turn signal on the 1997 toyota corolla does have working turn signal. Why can I not get the turn signal to work on the trailer?

It sounds like you are saying that your Toyota Corolla has working turn signals but that the trailer connector on the vehicle does not have the turn signal functions. This is most likely because the trailer wiring on your car does not have a converter installed that will combine the turn signals with the brake light signal for towing a trailer with a US standard two wire system.

The correct wiring harness for your 1997 Toyota Corolla is the Taillight Converter Hardwire Kit, # 119178KIT. I have attached a link to installation instructions and a video installation for you to review.

If the vehicle side connector is working properly and the white wire is ground, the brown wire is for taillights, the yellow wire is for left turn and brakes and the green wire is right turn and brakes, you will need to test the wiring on the trailer. Make sure each light is properly grounded and that the yellow wire on the left side light is attached to the left turn and brake circuit and the brown wire is attached to the taillight circuit. Do the same on the right side with the green wire attached to right turn and brake and brown wire attached to the taillight circuit.
