How Much Can a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited AWD with V6 Tow

Question:

Looking at buying a travel trailer, it dry weight of 5200lbs. Can my 2014 santa Fe limited awd v6 tow this trailer? What do I need to properly tow this trailer? Xtra coolant? Weight distributing hitch? Anything else? Thanks

According to the owner's manual for a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe, the towing capacity for a model with the 3.3L V6 engine and the trailer towing package is 5,000 lbs. If you do not have the trailer towing package then your towing capacity is 2,000 lbs. Therefore, I cannot recommend you tow a trailer with a dry weight of 5,200 lbs.

If you are able to find a trailer that is under the towing capacity of your vehicle then you will need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount/hitch ball. A weight distribution system is not required but will be a good idea if you are at or near the maximum towing capacity of your vehicle. The owner's manual does requires that the trailer have brakes if over 1,653 lbs so you will most likely need a brake controller and 7-way.

For a trailer hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75776 because it has a hidden crosstube and it comes with a mounting bracket for the trailer connector. For a wiring harness, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56332 because it offers plug and play installation. If your trailer has brakes then for a 7-way, I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller part # ETBC7 and for a brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 because it has safeguards that protect both the vehicle/trailer.

For a weight distribution system, the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control part # FA92-00-0800 should be perfect for you and it even has built-in sway control. The only thing you will need to use this system is a hitch ball, part # EQ91-00-6080 or part # EQ91-00-6100.

I have attached several install/review videos on the above products for you as well.
