How Far Can Kayaks Be Carried Using the Foam Blocks for Naked Roof Set-Up at Highway Speeds?
Question:
I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma with a SnugTop camper shell attached. My question is how long could one, or possibly two, kayaks stay securely mounted at Interstate speeds? Thank you.

With your SnugTop camper shell on your 2007 Toyota Tacoma, the ability to use a kayak carrier at highway speeds depends on the carrier used. The Rightline Gear Kayak Carrier with Tie-Downs - Foam Block Style # RL100K10 is not recommended for highway use unless used with a roof rack utilizing the integrated grooves in the foam blocks. The foam by itself can be used to transport kayaks, but it is not recommended for highway speeds.
To safely transport your kayaks on your vehicle, I recommend the SeaSucker Monkey Bars Roof Rack - Vacuum Cup Mount - 48" Long # 298-SX6000B. This system uses vacuum cups that are rated for 210 lbs pull strength each. This will allow you to mount one bar to your cab and one to your camper shell if desired. I then recommend the SUP and Surfboard Pads for SeaSucker Monkey Bars - 19-1/2" Long - Qty 2 # 298-SA1022 for each kayak and the Cam Buckle Tie-Down Straps for SeaSucker Monkey Bars - 1" Wide x 10' Long - Qty 2 # 298-SA0010.
