Ability to Attach Industry Standard 5th Wheel Hitch to Factory Pucks on 2018 Ram 2500

Question:

I am interested in adding “industry standard” bed rails for the Blue Ox Super Ride 5th wheel hitch. I am being told that it will not work on bed rails for my truck, that I should go with the gooseneck ball option. The bed rails for my puck system are not “industry standard” and the kit I would need will cost quite bit more money. I’m little confused as to why I paid for factory hitch system that will not support “industry standard” rails? I was looking at the Anderson to begin with, but saw this new Blue Ox hitch and I really like it. Can you help me understand what the Dealer is telling me. Just for more information I am getting the new 30’ Van Leigh Pinecrest trailer. It has a max weight of 12,200. The weight is not a major factor, I just want to avoid the chucking, bucking and noise. I also like the light weight factor those 2 hitches offer. Thank you

The factory pucks on your 2018 Ram 2500 allow you to use certain 5th Wheel Hitches that attach directly to these pucks, such as with the excellent B&W OEM Companion Sliding Hitch # BWRVK3670 (which will do a great job of reducing chucking and noise with its 1 inch thick dual jaws, fully articulating head, and polyurethane bushings) . This eliminates the need for separate base rails and allows for a completely clear bed when the hitch itself is removed.

As you mentioned in your question, the factory/OEM pucks are not considered industry standard rails like what many 5th wheel hitches are designed to attach to but there is still a solution that allows you to use these types of hitches on your truck.

I recommend taking a look at the Reese 5th Wheel Rail Adapter # RP30154. This will drop right into the factory pucks to provide you with above-bed, industry standard rails that are compatible with standard hitches like the Blue Ox model you are looking at.
