The best trailer hitch available for your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Class III Receiver # 76227 because of its hidden crosstube design and robust weight capacities.
The Draw-Tite hitch will use existing holes in your Outback's frame for a no-drill installation and its custom design allows only the 2 inch receiver to be seen from behind the vehicle (see attached image). This provides a sleek, OEM appearance that won't take away from the overall look of your brand new Outback Wagon. The hitch also has a 4,000 pound towing weight capacity and a 600 pound tongue weight limit, both of which are the highest hitch capacities available for your vehicle.
I have attached an installation video on the 2017 model Outback that you can use for reference. The process should be identical for your 2018 model.
I am not sure what you plan on using the hitch for but if you will be doing some towing you will also need a trailer wiring harness. For this I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118467 (as long as you don't have the Sport model) that will simply plug into factory ports behind the driver side trim panel. This will provide you with a 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights.
To tow a trailer you will also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I have attached a great article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection.
