Parts Needed to Install Tekonsha Brake Controller on a 2003 Ford F-150 with 4-Way Flat Connector

Question:

I have a 2003 ford f 150 that only has a 4 pin connector on the rear of the truck. We are buying a new trailer that has electric brakes with a 7 pin plug. Trailer is aluminum and weights 900 lbs. Tandem axel 14 foot long. Will be pulling a 1800 lb. Side by side. Was looking at the prodigy line of brake controllers. What all will i need to make this work.

If the 4-Way Flat connector on your 2003 Ford F-150 is from the factory then you simply need the Tekonsha OEM Tow Package Wiring # 118242 for a 7-Way connector and the Adapter # 3035-P to connect a Tekonsha brake controller to the plug under your driver's side dash. If you haven't already decided on a Tekonsha brake controller I highly recommend the Prodigy P3 # 90195 because of the LCD screen that makes it much easier to use than the previous models that require you to remember codes.

If the 4-Way on your F-150 is an aftermarket product then you need the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7 and the same Adapter # 3035-P to install the Prodigy P3 # 90195.

For the 118242 wiring you can use the mounting brackets # PK12711U and # C57202 but for the ETBC7 you only need the bracket # C57202 . If you would like to change out the 7-Way of the 118242 for a 4-Way/7-Way combo like what comes on the ETBC7 then you also need the Hopkins # 30955.

I have attached some sample installation videos and helpful articles for you to reference for the installation.
