Magnetic Base Strength of Kats Heaters Handi-Heat with Thermostat

Question:

Is the magnet strong enough to leave the heater attached to the oil pan and drive or does it have to be taken off every time and how long till it cools down enough to take off?

The Kat's Heaters Handi-Heat Magnetic Heater w/ Thermostat - 120V - 3-5/8" x 2-1/4" # KH1155 has a strong enough magnet you could drive with it, but I'm not sure if they are any legal requirements to remove it because of its location as it will change your ground clearance and may come off with impact. For safety, I recommend removing it.

The heater has an output between 300 and 400 degrees, so it will be hot only at the magnet and not the handle. You can remove it and put it on concrete at any time. If you will be putting it on a wood bench, you obviously want to wait longer. In most cases when using a heater the ambient temps will quickly cool the unit down so you may have around a 10 minute wait before it would be safe to touch the magnet.
