Best Brake Controller for a 2018 Toyota Tacoma SR5
Question:
I have a 2018 Tacoma SR5 V6 4WD Access cab. Although it has the trailer hitch and both 4flat and 7round connectors by the license plate it does not seem to have the connector under the dash that comes with the towing package. What is your recommendation for a brake controller for this truck, and what is the install difficulty I am pretty handy ? Thanks

There should be a brake controller port on your 2018 Toyota Tacoma with or without the tow package. I have attached a photo of this location for you which is under the driver side kick panel near the emergency brake pedal. I would double check this location as it should be present. If so then I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 with the Tekonsha Custom Wiring Adapter for Trailer Brake Controllers part # 3031-P.
The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 is in my opinion, the best brake controller we offer as it has continuous diagnostic checks for easy maintenance, integrated safeguards that protect both the brake controller/vehicle, and an easy to read/use LCD display. The Custom Wiring Adapter then makes everything plug and play.
If for some odd reason your Tacoma is unlike most others and did not come with the brake controller port or if you just don't want an in-cab controller then you can use the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller part # C51180 which is wireless and does not require any modifications to the tow vehicle.
