Trailer Hitch Recommendation Plus Installing Brake Controller in 2000 Ford E-450 Motorhome

Question:

Hi I just picked up a 2000 E450 class c motor home and I will be pulling a 24’ enclosed trailer and I was wondering how to hook up the the brake controller it has the factory wiring under dash I got that plugged in an box mounted but only has a 4 blade flat on the back is the wires hidden somewhere? And also I need a heavier hitch to pull at least 7500 I don’t think it will ever be heavier than that but is is capable of 10000

Your 2000 Ford E450 Cutaway Cab and Chassis that has a motorhome installed on it is a unique fit. There isn't a custom hitch that is a specific fit for that vehicle. I reached out to my contact at Cequent and we determined a couple options that I recommend to choose from.

The Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch Receiver - Weld On - Class V - 2", # 41990-07, has 7 inch tall brackets that need to be welded to the frame. This hitch has a 44 inch square tube that is 3 inches deep. It has a maximum gross trailer weight rating of 16,000 lbs and a max tongue weight of 1600 lbs. It is not to be used with weight distribution systems for trailers.

Another very similar option is the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Service Body Trailer Hitch Receiver - Weld On - Class V - 2", # 41990-16. The only difference between these two hitches is this hitch has a 16 inch bracket height to give you more bumper clearance.

Now for the brake controller wiring your best option is going to be to use an adapter # 37185 to convert the 4-way to a 7-way and then run the blue wire of the adapter up to the blue wire of the controller using 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot). I wish we knew of where you'd be able to hopefully find factory wiring but since it's a motorhome chassis that type of info isn't available.
