Replacement Brake Actuating Coupler for Discontinued Atwood Coupler
Question:
Hello, Im looking for some replacement parts for my Atwood Surge Brakes. I need a new master cylinder, gasket, cap, and shock. The kit number I found with this diagram ... are 85830 and either 85838 or 85840. If you can help with either replacements or an alternative Id greatly appreciate it. This is a weld on coupler so if I cant find the parts to repair the brakes Ill probably have to take them out. Thank you!

Atwood brake actuating couplers are no longer available and the parts are discontinued. I understand the frustration of not having the ability to cut the current coupler off and either weld or bolt on a replacement, but I definitely don't recommend going without brakes on a trailer intended to have them. Legally you can have issues with not having working brakes on trailers over 3,000 lbs when loaded in most states.
I've linked the page to our couplers so you can determine your options. Since we can't get the Atwood replacement parts anymore, your best option would be to replace the actuator with a more reliable one like the Demco # DM72VR for if you have a drum brake setup or part # 099-175-20 for if you have a disc setup.
