Recommendation for Flat Towing System 2014 Chevy Traverse LTZ

Question:

When we purchased our 2018 FR3 30DS this summer, the very short term previous owner also provided us with a Falcon 5250 towbar and a never opened Roadmaster 9243-3 Tow Bar Combo Kit in the deal. The Falcon, while older, appears to be in pristine shape and hardly used and the Combo Kit is still unopened in plastic. Would we be able to use these items together as we plan to have a base plate and supplemental brake installed on our Traverse. Please advise, and also let us know which other items would be required suggested base plate model, hi-low bracket, braking system, etc?. I know that is a heavier duty combo kit than the weight of our Traverse, but any reason I cant still use it? Also, Ive heard others give mixed reviews on towing a Traverse - issues with check engine light coming on after towing, etc.? Any general advice there? We already own it and it is paid for and has low miles, so hate to trade it on something else if it can be made to tow well. Are there available shut off switches for the fuses to make that easier? The towing guide says to remove the 15-amp ECM and OnStar fuses, and 50-amp BATT1 fuse. Really appreciate your expert advice!

The RoadMaster BlackHawk 2 All Terrain Combo Towing Kit - 10,000 lbs # RM-9243-3 and the Falcon tow bar will be similar to the # RM-520 or Falcon 2 # RM-525 and will work well. There is no reason why these cannot be used on your 2014 Chevy Traverse LTZ.

For your base plates, I recommend the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # 523175-4. This is a custom fit for your vehicle and will work well with the tow bar.

There are some additional wiring switches you will want with that kit so you don't need to pull fuses each time you tow. You will want the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass Switch # RM-76517 and # RM76514.

For your supplemental braking system, the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251 is my recommendation. It is an extremely reliable system that is plug and play after the initial installation and adjustment. I've attached a video to assist. You will also need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit - Acadia/Enclave/Outlook/Traverse # RM-751221 and I recommend adding the Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 as well.

As you stated you will also need a high-low adapter. I've attached an article and linked the page to your options so you can make sure your combination is in the safe range.

That is everything you need to have a great system utilizing the components you already have.
