Best Way to Charge Trailer Battery of Dump Trailer
Question:
I tow a heavy duty dump trailer that is good for about 3 lifts. Occasionally I need 5 or 6 in one day. It is a pain running cables from the truck to the trailer. Your 7 blade plug diagram says it has a 12 volt black wire in the #4 position. Can I run a new thicker wire from the battery to this position in the 7 blade plug so I can charge the trailer battery when plugged in. I assume I would need a 30 amp inline fuse near the battery connection. Does this make sense? Would it work?

A lot of people do what you are asking about by charging the trailer battery through the 12 volt accessory circuit of the 7-way. Going with 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by foot) through a breaker like part # 9510 would be a great option but you should know that this will only put a maintenance charge on the battery and wouldn't charge a dead or depleted battery.
