It sounds like you need to check the tow vehicle and trailer connectors for any corrosion or damage. It is very interesting that your Prodigy P2 # 90885 is reading NC (No Connection) at the same time you activate your trailer brakes.
If the trailer isn't connected are you getting 12V of power to the pin in the 5 o'clock position on your tow vehicle? Try testing this pin with a circuit tester like part # PTW2991 to verify this. If there is power coming to this pin without the trailer connected then you need to check the Red wire on the P2 and see if it is getting constant power without your brake pedal being pressed.
If there is no power on this pin then somehow your 12V power is jumping over and powering your brakes. Check the wiring behind your 7-Way connectors for any places where it is damaged or pinched and repair accordingly. Testing the pins to make sure the functions match up is also a good idea. Use the circuit tester to test your tow vehicle connector and a 12V battery to apply power to the pins on your trailer connector.
If your 7-Ways look good then it is possible that the controller is bad. Simply cut the blue wire 6" away from the controller and test this wire like you did the 7-Way to see if it has power. If it does then the controller need to be replaced.
Let me know if this doesn't fix your issue and I can help you troubleshoot further.
