What is Converter Box for On Trailer Wiring Harnesses for 2018 Acura MDX

Hi Looking at the trailer harnesses for my 2018 Acura MDX and see that they all come with a black converter box - why - is it needdeed?

The black converter boxes you see on the trailer wiring harnesses for your 2018 Acura MDX are needed because the vehicle has a separate wiring system. This means that the brake and turn signals are sent along separate wires. Since standard trailer wiring uses the stop and turn signals on the same wire, a converter module is needed to combine these signals. The powered converter also helps to safeguard the factory wiring on the Acura and ensure that there is enough power to activate the trailer lights
