How to Determine the Correct Replacement Hubs for a Trailer with a 3,500 Pound Axle

Question:

Hello, I am trying to figure out which hub kit I need for my Boat Trailer...it is a 3500LBS single straight axle. Old hubs were 5 studs with 4.5 spacing made by Dexter, with grease joint at end of hub. But Im not sure what type of spindle I have. What should I do?

There are a couple of things you can look at to determine the correct replacement hubs. The best way is to retrieve the inner and outer bearing numbers that are stamped into the bearings. I suspect that you will have the Trailer Hub Assembly, # 84545UC1-EZ, which uses L68149 Inner/L44649 Outer bearings and E-Z lube axles.

Or, for a hub and drum, # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K, which is the same but has the hub and drum for drum brakes. But, the best way to know is to check your bearing numbers.

The other thing you can do is measure the spindle. I have included a link to our spindle main page that shows the dimensions needed to identify the spindle. The measurements need to be as accurate as possible so I recommend using a set of dial calipers if you measure the spindle.
