Recommended Trailer Hitch and 5-Bike Rack for 2019 Honda Odyssey

Hi. I have a family and we all like to ride bikes. Just got a new 2019 Honda Odyssey wondering if there is a hitch and a good bike rack that you could recommend to accommodate all the bikes? Much appreciated.

Starting with the trailer hitch I recommend going with the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98855. I like this hitch for your particular application because the receiver won't be tucked too far behind the rear bumper to cause any interference issues between it and a mounted rack. Its matte black finish also adds a unique rugged look that isn't present on other options. It has a 525 pound tongue weight capacity and will be a simple bolt-on installation.

Then for a 5-bike rack I highly recommend the Thule Apex XT 5 Bike Rack # Y02463. This is an excellent hanging-style rack that features dual arms for great bike support and anti-sway cradles that will secure them at 3 different points to help reduce any movement during travel. The tilting design lets you easily access the rear cargo area on your van. It can handle up to 5 bikes with a total weight of 150 pounds.

If you plan on carrying any children's, women's, or alternative frame bikes you might also need an adapter bar like the Kuat # UB01. This will provide a horizontal mounting point for level transport and improved ground clearance.
