For your 1996 GMC C/K 1500, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 75099 so long as you have a standard bumper and not a roll pan. This trailer hitch is a custom fit so no drilling is required, is cost effective, and has a hidden cross tube so it will look very nice once installed. It will be perfect for light-medium duty towing.
We actually have an install video of this trailer hitch on a 1996 Chevrolet C/K 1500 which I have attached for you. The install difficulty is rated as a 3/10.
