When are Isolating Diodes Required for Installing the Curt 2-Wire to 3-Wire Converter
Question:
Hi, Some QnA recommend isolating diode, while others didnt specify. could you explain what kind of backfeeding and current flow path are under concern at which conditions? if you can present rough diagram inside C56196, I guess it could be helpful to clearly understand.

The answer actually isn't very technical. Curt doesn't require that diodes be used with the Converter # C56196 however some Experts still like to recommend using a diode like part # RM-690 to prevent backfeed just because you are adding something different to the original wiring.
If you are connecting this to the OEM wiring on a pickup for a 3rd brake light then a diode would be a good idea, but if you are only splicing this into some trailer wiring a diode isn't necessary.
It never hurts to install a diode as that is just adding some extra protection to your other wiring.
