Recommended 7-Way Harness and Brake Controller for 2019 Kia Sorento
Question:
Hello, i am looking to purchase a Kia 2019 sorento V6 and get the tow package installed at dealer. I do not think there is a factory installation. I need a 7 way connector because i will have a trailer with electric brakes. What is the best option. Thanks

We have everything you need to install a fully-functional 7-Way trailer connector on the 2019 Kia Sorento that is equipped with the factory tow package.
To do this you will first need to install a 4-Way connector for which I highly recommend the Hopkins Vehicle Wiring Harness # HM11143965. This custom harness will plug right into the factory ports under the vehicle on the driver side. It is designed specifically to work with models that have the towing package and it includes a converter to ensure the Sorento's wiring matches that of the trailer.
I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference along with a picture of where exactly those factory ports are on your vehicle.
From there you will need to install the Universal Wiring Kit # ETBC7. This kit includes everything needed to convert the 4-Way to a fully-functional 7-Way along with the additional wiring and circuit breakers needed to install a trailer brake controller. I have attached the complete written instructions for this kit that you can take a look at as well.
Then to actually power the electric brakes on your trailer you will need to add a brake controller. For this I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90885. This is a fantastic proportional controller that will activate the trailer brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in your Sorento. I really like this controller because it features a really easy-to-read LCD screen that doesn't rely on hard-to-decipher codes like other controllers and its 5 storable settings allow you to transition between different trailers or even different driver preferences with ease.
I have attached a short video demonstration on this controller that you can check out.
