Helpful Expert Reply:
So long as you have the factory 7-way on your 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 you can install the outstanding Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller # 90885 simply with the Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers - Dodge # 3020-P.
You will only need to plug the adapter into the brake controller harness on your Ram, which will be under your dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.
I have added a link to a video review of the Prodigy P2 # 90885 and Wiring Adapter # 3020-P being installed on an '06 Ram so you can see exactly where you need to plug the adapter in.
