Trailer Wiring Harness Needed for Hardwiring 4-Way to 2001 Toyota Tacoma

Question:

I am wiring a 01 Tacoma, from 5 wire down to a flat 4 prong to connect to the trailer. Turn signals work fine green and yellow Running lights work fine brown No matter how I wire the brake lights red I cant get them to work properly. Right now I have the brakes wired to the running lights just so I can get by ..so no running lights on the trailer until I brake, then they all light up as a brake substitute. I have wired it into the Turn signals, which works the brake lights, but cancels the flash of the turn signal. Do I need some sort of converter in order to line the brakes into the turn signal wires without canceling the flash, and turning a single turn signal into emergency flashers...? Please Help.

Trailer wiring has the turn signals and brake signals on the same bulb. Your truck has the brake signal on a different wire so you need a trailer wiring harness that's designed to convert these signals properly. For that you'd need a kit like the # 119250KIT which when you wire up the input side to your vehicle like the instructions show the 4-way will function like your trailer needs.
