Troubleshooting Prodigy P3 Brake Controller Not Getting Voltage with Brake Pedal Depressed
Question:
Ive got a P3 hooked on a 2008 Jeep grand Cherokee. With the trailer hooked up i get battery power to the P3 but no voltage when the brake is depressed. I also do not get output voltage except when i use the manual override in which case I get about 12 volts. Im using a 3m wire splice to tap into the brake wire.

If you aren't getting any voltage from the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 when stepping on the brake pedal, it's very possible that you have a blown stop light or CHMSL fuse on your Jeep. I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and it looks like there should be a 15-amp blue fuse located in the # 26 position inside the under-hood panel. Check to see if this fuse is in need of replacement. You might also check your copy of the manual for any other fuse locations related to the stop light or CHMSL.
If the fuses look good, then I recommend making sure you are connected to the correct brake switch wire above the brake pedal of your Jeep. The red wire from the brake controller should be connected to the wire on the Jeep that ONLY receives power when the brake pedal is depressed and no power with any other function. You can use a circuit tester like # PTW2992 to be sure.
If you are still unable to locate and resolve the issue please let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot.
