Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Circuits that Dont Work With No Trailer Connection Error Code
Question:
I just recently hooked up my travel trailer to my 2012 ram 2500 to move the other day. When raising my electric jack it was very slow in accending and descending. The camper was plugged in to power at the time. Eventually the motor stopped working on the electric jack but no fuse was blown. I’m not too worried about this but wanted to detail this as well in case this leads to the problem that I am having. The trailer is not being detected by the truck. The marker lights on the camper work when plugged in to the truck but the brakes are not. I never had this issue before. The lights inside the camper work as well on the battery so you would think the marine battery has some type of juice. I’m not even sure if the battery assists with the electronic brakes or not. Could this still be a fuse in the truck if the lights work but the brakes do not? Or what exactly could be the issue with the travel trailer. This is a 2013 Jayco 22fb travel trailer

When a brake controller or vehicle states that it does not detect a trailer being connected that's typically related to the brake controller not being able to detect trailer brakes. Which the cause for this problem is almost always corrosion on the trailer connectors preventing the connection from being made. Since you are seeing issues with a few circuits I'd suspect the issue is also related to the ground circuit not being fully connected as well.
A weak ground will also cause a trailer jack to not be able to work as quickly as normal too.
