Recommended 3500 lb Axle with Electric Brake Hubs to Replace Axle with 8-147 Drum Hubs

Question:

I read a reply from expert Jon G that hub # AKHD-545-35-K can be used as a replacement for 8-147 hubs on Dexter #3500 lb axles. I need to replace my axles with new ones and want to keep the old hubs, rims and tires, so is the converse true? Will my old 8-147 hubs fit on a new Dexter #3500 axle?

Expert Reply:

Your hubs are not directly compatible with any axle we currently carry. The 8-147 hubs are agricultural hubs and although very close to fitting will not work with the new axle spindles. My recommendation is to get your new axle with the kit that includes the electric brake assemblies and hubs.

I recommend the Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - E-Z Lube - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 95" - 3,500 lbs # 7359765-EB if you have spring centers 80 inches apart. If you have springs 74 inches on center then I recommend the Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - EZ-Lube - 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern - 89" - 3,500 lbs # e43SR. These options have the easy to maintain E-Z Lube spindle and are the standard thru-axle design.
