Will the Universal Wiring Harness # 22551 Fit on a 1985 Ford F-250
Question:
1985 Ford F-250 tows a horse trailer and recreational trailer. Identical problem with both trailers, so suspect the truck. Lights on truck work fine. Running lights, turn indicators work on both trailers. Brake lights do not work same wire, turn indicators and brake lights on trailers, but DO work on truck. Tester used on vehicle end socket indicate power to brake/turn lights 7 way socket. Can we use this wiring harness to rewire the truck?

It sounds like you have a short somewhere on your trailer stop/turn circuits on your 1985 Ford F-250. The Universal Wiring Harness # 22551 will fit your pickup and provide you with the connector needed for a brake controller like the Prodigy P2 # 90885 if that is the route you are wanting to take.
You can also check to make sure your current 7-Way connector is clean and free of debris as well as making sure your turn/stop circuits on your pickup don't have any shorts. By searching along your current wiring you can replace any damaged or pinched sections with 16 gauge wire # 16-1-1 which would save you some money and keep you from having to install a whole new wiring unit.
If the wiring on your pickup is the original then replacing it completely is probably the better idea as you will likely see more and more troubleshooting in the future due to the age of the wires.
