Lippert Replacement Coach Step Motors

Question:

my module continues to supply power to the motor after full extension and the motor gets hot. Is the module faulty or the door switch. my door switch does not respond to a magnet but the step will work if the door is opened and closed but the motor continues to get power when the door is open . The override switch cuts power to the light but not the motor.

The problem you describe with your coach's Lippert electric step system sounds like an issue with the motor. When the step has extended fully the motor's current draw increases and this condition is supposed to be detected by the control module which will then shut off power. If the motor goes bad it will not draw that higher current and the control module will not be able to sense that the step is fully extended. This is why the motor heats up; the module does not get the required high-current signal from the motor and so it does not know to stop sending power.

My contact at Lippert said that based on your step's symptoms failure of the motor is much more likely than failure of the module. I linked our range of Lippert replacement step motors like # LC301695 that fits single, double, or triple electric Lippert Coach Step or Stromberg Carlson sliding steps.
