Weight Distribution Recommendation for Riverside RV 285FK Retro
Question:
No one can seem to answer this question: I need a Fastway e2 WD/anti-sway hitch. My trailer a Riverside RV 285FK Retro with an Average Shipping Weight lbs.=5,675, Hitch Weight lbs.=920*, and Carrying Capacity lbs.=2,245. My tow vehicle is a Ford Expedition XLT with tow package, and the manufacturer says we can safely tow a trailer that weighs up to 9,200 lbs fully loaded as long as the tongue weight is between 10 and 15 of the trailer’s loaded weight, and the tongue weight doesn’t exceed 920 lbs using a WDH. So, which model of e2 WDH/AS hitch should I buy? Many thanks!! *I have been told that Tongue Weight and Hitch Weight describe the same thing, but why the *trailer* itself has a rated Hitch Weight, I know not nor does anyone else I have contacted.

Hitch weight and tongue weight basically refer to the same thing...the vertical weight that is present on the hitch of the tow vehicle from the trailer. This figure is the figure to use for picking out a weight distribution system.
Since your tow vehicle has a tongue weight limit of 920 lbs and your trailer appears to have that as a tongue weight the best system then will be one that has a tongue weight range that has that number right in the middle of the range.
For that we have the Strait Line system part # RP66084 which has a range of 600-1,200 lb and features only sway control on market that works to fight sway before it starts.
For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
